I didn't know there was going to be math...of course the amount and the type are also pretty important-are they fresh or do they come from the jar? If summer truffles cost 1/10 of what winter truffles cost, there's no good reason why a truffle pizza in the middle of summer ought to cost 9/10 of what you'd expect to pay for one with fresh winter truffles. But I feel somewhat like a schmuck for not asking exactly what they were using.

Why don't you come out for the next round?

FYI-Summer Truffles are about $300+/pound, so maybe they are not as expensive as winter ($3500+/pound last year), but still command a pretty high premium.

Finally went to Racks last night. Had the sweet sausage pizza. I'm also a fan of almost-burned crust and Racks' was pretty black, not as crispy as Anthony's but close. I liked it better than the pizzas I've tried at Pizza Volante. (But I'll kill for PV's calzones). The service at Racks was fantastic last night, very attentive.

Just as a side note - thank goodness for the Slice website. They've got the word for the "outside crust" that I've often tried to refer to - cornicione. I don't know if I'm going to throw that around in casual pizza conversation, but

Sounds like I need to give Racks a second chance. I didn't dislike it but I wasn't as high on it as MD. I think Spris and Piola will fare well in Crawl Tres. (had very good pies at both recently)Haven't tried Sosta yet. On a side note, Macaluso's Market does good pizza too

Overall, I think I still preferred Pizzavolante by a nose over Racks for the quality and interest of the toppings (despite the super-short menu); I thought neither of their crusts was perfect - Racks' too doughy, Pizzavolante too crispy (I sound like Goldilocks). I would go back to Pizza Fusion before I'd go back to Andiamo.
